Gum Health Services in Glastonbury, CT

While most of us are familiar with periodic teeth cleanings and dental fillings, many people overlook the importance of caring for their gums. However, the truth is that healthy gums are vital for overall dental health. Unfortunately, Purple Dental’s Dr. Poornima and Dr. Sam are no strangers to the ravaging effects of gum disease. Gum disease can often go unnoticed and lead to severe consequences if left untreated.

Stages & Signs of Gum Disease

While regular dental check-ups are essential for monitoring gum health and addressing any concerns promptly, recognizing these signs early can lead to more effective treatment and help prevent the progression of gum disease.

  • Gingivitis: The earliest stage of gum disease is an infection that showcases red or swollen gums, bleeding during brushing or flossing, bad breath, and general discomfort or tenderness in the gums.
  • Mild Periodontitis: As gingivitis progresses, gum irritation and inflammation increase. This leads to the formation of pockets between the gums and teeth, persistent bad breath, and tooth sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures.
  • Advanced Periodontitis: As periodontitis progresses, it becomes more challenging to manage—and nearly impossible to manage alone. Signs of advanced periodontitis include deepening of gum pockets, receding gums, severe bad breath, gum pain, and loose teeth or shifting dental alignment.
